Who is Sipho Phakathi
Sipho is an Accountant by profession having qualified with a BCompt degree in Accounting and Auditing. He has worked for a number of established corporates in both Finance Management and Governance including the application of the BBBEE codes within these organisations.
For the last 12 years, Sipho career has been in the BBBEE and Development arena. He joined the Mondi Group in the BBBEE and Supply Chain environment where he was part of the team that set up Mondi Zimele, the enterprise development agency for Mondi. The agency was established to invest and support small to medium enterprises with business support including funding and governance supdport. He has been involved in business development support, financial management together with risk and compliance. He was also part of the team that sourced funding from the Government’s Jobs Fund to set up the R140million Mondi Zimele Jobs Fund. Sipho has served on the Boards of Zimele investees providing governance and financial advice and support.
Sipho commenced his working career as a trainee accountant at Deloitte which included working on both private and public sector clients. Subsequent to completing his training at Deloitte he joined the corporate world as an internal auditor at SAB Miller. After leaving SAB Miller, he was involved in a consultancy business and accounting functions at a manufacturing business and Transnet.
In 2001, Sipho joined KPMG in its public sector consulting division and was involved in various governmental clients providing financial support and consulting to clients such as the Media Development and Diversity Agency, National FET colleges, KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education and the Independent Electoral Commission. He was also seconded to public sector entities including as Airport Manager and CFO for a district municipality.
